Frequently Asked Question
You may only see someone mowing, strimming, cutting hedges or clearing up every so often but, a bit like the tip of an iceberg, that is only a relatively small part of what we have to do as an ecological estates management firm. It is often difficult to see just how much else goes on, behind the scenes.
Our main aims for your open greenspace are not only improve the quality of your Public Open Space (POS) by enhancing the environmental and integrated ecological aspects of your development, but also to promote and protect the local biodiversity.
Our ecological focus is in compliance with national and international policies, including climate change and United Nations’ halting the loss of biodiversity to which Britain is a signatory.
Below is a summary of some of the activities that take place to support our POS services that you may not have realised are part of our work.
- Supporting our staff, including suitably experienced/trained field and office staff to support working with biodiverse and, on some sites, legally protected species habitats.
- Maintaining a working knowledge of current laws and regulations about wildlife, environment, greenspace and planning and ensuring it is applied effectively to assure policy compliance.
- Maintaining compliance with the requirements and agreed guidelines published by the British Standards Institute, statutory authorities, other professional bodies and councils.
- Following health & safety rules in line with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements, our own policies, and to meet insurance obligations. For example, it is usually necessary to send two people on site visits where work at height or near water is required.
- Insurance costs.
- Provision of essential equipment such as grounds machinery and tools, scientific instruments, office machines and communications equipment.
- Travel time and mileage to and from sites.
- Provision of communications facilities for residents, such as the help desk, our customer services email, phone line, the Residents’ Web Page and Service Charge Bills.
