Frequently Asked Question

Can I Pick the Blackberries?
Last Updated 2 months ago

Yes, we encourage our residents to benefit from all the edible fruits that grow on our sites, always being aware of your own dietary needs and any allergies you may have.

However, we also ask residents to keep in mind that much of the fruit, like blackberries, is a vital food source for local wildlife, particularly birds, so we would kindly ask that hedgerow fruits are not picked on urban sites with greenspace areas of less than one hectare in size, as there may not be any other local food sources available to them in these instances.

If you are unsure, please contact us to check because, if there are fruit trees on your site, then it is likely that picking from those in moderation is acceptable on most sites.

Always exercise caution when picking from the wild and make sure you know what is safe. Some berries and plants are highly toxic and should not be ingested, and some plants can cause skin damage.

If you wish to forage on Betts’ sites, or just read a bit more, please first read our Foraging Policy which can be found by visiting our main web page (www.bettsestates.com) and clicking the “Policies” link at the bottom of the page.
